Geotechnical engineering and site investigation

Design and physical stability of leach pads, tailings and waste rock facilities, dams and foundations, supported by field and laboratory investigations.

Our geotechnical team brings quality, sound technical support and safety to the physical stability of every project. Our experience covers the design and construction of mining components —leach pads, tailings storage facilities, waste rock dumps and process plants— as well as geomechanical projects for tunnels and open pits.

Service scope

Geotechnical services

  • Geotechnical reports for the design of leach pads, waste rock dumps, pit slopes, organic material stockpiles, water dams, tailings dams and process plant foundations.
  • Review, analysis and interpretation of geotechnical monitoring data.
  • Physical stability reviews of leach pads, waste rock dumps, pit slopes, water dams and tailings dams.
  • Planning of geotechnical and geomechanical laboratory testing and interpretation of results.
  • Operation, geotechnical and contingency manuals for leach pads, tailings facilities, waste rock dumps and pits.

Field and laboratory investigations

  • Geotechnical and geological field investigations (test pits).
  • Supervision of HQ, HQ3, NQ and BQ diamond drilling, and of RC, Tubex, Odex and tricone drilling.
  • Supervision and preparation of lithological, geological and geotechnical core logs.
  • DPL, SPT, LPT and CPT testing, and soil and rock sampling.
  • Supervision of Lefranc and Lugeon permeability tests and seismic piezocone tests (SCPTu).
  • Identification, evaluation, sampling and study of borrow sources and quarries.
  • Soil and rock mechanics laboratory testing with interpretation of results.
